Your recipes already know what you need to buy
Stop rebuilding a shopping list from scratch every week - let the recipes you're actually cooking generate it for you.
Every ingredient in a shopping list already exists somewhere - in the recipe you're about to cook. Building the list by hand means re-reading every recipe and transcribing every ingredient anyway, which is exactly the kind of busywork that makes "just order takeout" start sounding reasonable.
Pick a few recipes from your CookBird book and it does that transcription for you - merging duplicate ingredients across recipes automatically, so a cup of flour needed in two different dishes turns into one line, not two.
How it works
Pick your recipes
Choose up to 5 recipes from your book - whatever you're actually planning to cook.
Generate the list
CookBird reads every ingredient across all of them and merges duplicates automatically into one consolidated list.
Shop and check off together
Share the list and check items off live as you shop - everyone looking at it sees updates instantly, and your progress is saved if you have to stop partway through.
Pick recipes, get one list
Select up to 5 recipes from your book and build a shopping list from them in a single click - no going ingredient by ingredient, recipe by recipe, by hand.
Updates live, for everyone
Share the list and whoever's actually at the store can check items off - everyone else looking at the same list sees it happen the moment it does.
Picks up where you left off
Checked-off items stay checked. Close the app mid-shop and come back to it later - your list remembers exactly where you left off.
Fewer duplicate purchases, less waste
A consolidated list is also a more accurate one: when ingredients are merged instead of listed separately per recipe, you're far less likely to buy something you already have enough of - or forget it entirely and pick up a duplicate on your next trip.
Common questions
Why is it limited to 5 recipes per list?
It keeps a list focused on what you're actually about to cook, rather than turning into an open-ended pantry inventory. You can always generate a new list for the next batch of recipes once you're ready.
Can I add items that aren't from a recipe?
Shopping lists are built directly from recipe ingredients. For anything outside of what a recipe calls for, you'd track that separately for now.
What happens to old shopping lists?
Every list you create stays on your Shopping Lists page, with the recipes it was built from shown at the top - so you can always trace an ingredient back to what needed it.
Does everyone need the CookBird app open at the same time to see updates?
No - updates sync in real time whenever someone has the list open, but nothing is lost if you check it later. Checked-off items stay checked between visits.
