Privacy Policy

This policy explains what data CookBird (the website at cookbird.nl and the CookBird Android app) collects, why, and how you can control or delete it. CookBird is operated from the Netherlands.

Account info. When you sign up or log in, our identity provider (Auth0) collects your name and email address. We use your account ID, name, and email to run your account and, if you subscribe to Premium, to start checkout.

Recipes, lists and plans. Recipes you save or write, shopping lists, meal plans, food log entries, and anything you share with other people or post to the community feed.

Health and fitness info. If you use the food log or body-goals features, we store what you enter: weight, height, and calorie/nutrition targets.

Photos. Photos you take or upload for a recipe or a scanned product label.

Feedback. If you use the in-app feedback form: your message, rating, category, and basic technical context (app version, platform, screen size) to help us fix bugs.

Website usage (cookbird.nl only, not the Android app). Page views and button clicks via Google Analytics (only if you accept analytics cookies - see Cookies below), and aggregate, cookieless traffic stats via Vercel Analytics. If you're logged in and have accepted, page views are tied to a pseudonymous version of your account ID so we can tell repeat visits across devices apart from a fresh visitor - not to a name or email.

Analytics cookies (optional). Google Analytics sets the _ga and _ga_* cookies to recognize returning visitors. They're only set after you click Accept in the cookie banner. If you decline, Google Analytics isn't loaded at all.

Strictly necessary storage. Your login session (Auth0) and your theme and cookie choices are kept in your browser's local storage. These don't need consent because the site can't work without them, or because they only store a choice you made.

You can change your choice at any time. Withdrawing consent deletes the Google Analytics cookies.

To run the product: keep you logged in, store and sync your recipes and lists, generate shopping lists, process Premium subscriptions, and respond to feedback. We don't use your data for advertising, and we don't sell it.

We share the minimum needed with the services that make CookBird work:

• Auth0 - handles login and stores your account credentials.
• Mollie - processes Premium subscription payments; we send your name and email to start checkout, and Mollie collects your payment details directly. We never see or store your card or bank details.
• Google Analytics and Vercel - website hosting and usage analytics (cookbird.nl only).

We don't share your data with anyone else, and never sell it.

We keep your data while your account is active. If you request deletion (see below), we delete it, though it may briefly persist in backups before being fully purged, and we may retain records legally required for tax or billing purposes.

You can access and update most of your data directly in Settings. You can request a copy of your data or request deletion of your account and everything tied to it at cookbird.nl/delete-account. If you're in the EU/EEA, you also have rights under the GDPR (access, correction, erasure, portability, and objection) - contact us to exercise any of them.

Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) between the app, our servers, and the third parties listed above.

CookBird isn't directed at children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect data from them.

If this policy changes meaningfully, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use CookBird after a change means you accept the update.
